When you say “failed,” do you mean that you know you are pregnant, or did the condom break? If you’ve confirmed a pregnancy, your next step is to learn about your options.

If the condom broke, it’s time to find out if you’re pregnant. Guess what? We can help you find answers to both.

Do You Need to Find Out Whether or Not You’re Pregnant?

The most common early pregnancy symptom is a late period, but you can have a change in your monthly menstrual cycle for other reasons. Stress, a hormone imbalance, certain drugs, and increased exercise can also cause you to skip a period.

Your first step is to take a pregnancy test. At Coweta Pregnancy Services, we offer no-cost, confidential urine pregnancy testing. We recommend waiting at least a week after your missed period before testing. To receive testing at Coweta, you can conveniently schedule your appointment online.

If your test is positive, we can provide a no-cost limited obstetrical ultrasound. A pregnancy test identifies the possibility of pregnancy, but an ultrasound confirms whether it’s viable (developing) or not.

Experts suggest that as many as 26% of all pregnancies end in a miscarriage. Because it takes a woman’s body time to return to pre-pregnancy hormone levels, you could get a positive pregnancy test days or even weeks after a miscarriage.

Don’t skip this vital step. You should get as much information about your pregnancy as possible to protect your health and safety.

I’m Pregnant. Now What?

Once you’ve confirmed your pregnancy, you’ll need to decide how you want to handle it. An unplanned pregnancy is stressful. You’re surprised by the result of the pregnancy test, and now, you realize you have a big decision to make.

The key is to learn about all of your options. Remember, this is your decision and yours alone. No one has the right or the authority to force you to make one choice over another.

You have three options: have an abortion, place your child for adoption, or choose to parent.

Abortion

How far along you are in your pregnancy usually determines the type of abortion you qualify for. Learning the exact date you became pregnant is another reason why it’s important to have an ultrasound.

Before you schedule an abortion, make sure you understand the various procedures, limitations,

possible side effects, and potential physical and emotional risks. At Coweta, we do not perform or refer for abortion, but we will give you factual, medically based information and answer your questions.

Adoption

Many women do not consider this option because of the misunderstanding that surrounds the adoption process. Today, the expectant mother or birth mother chooses the adoptive couple who will raise her child.

Select an adoption coordinator who offers comprehensive adoption counseling to help you determine if this option is right for you. Although we are not a licensed child-placing facility, we can provide referrals to reputable adoption agencies.

Parenting

Several local services are available to support you if you choose to parent. We offer no-cost parenting classes that assist you with everything from prenatal care to postpartum support.

By participating in our classes, you can earn points to use for everything from cribs and car seats to diapers and baby clothes. Contact us to learn about the many services available if you should choose to parent.
